2010 SONY OPEN IN HAWAII OPEN QUALIFYING
TURTLE BAY RESORT - ARNOLD PALMER COURSE
MONDAY, JANUARY 11, 2010

The Aloha Section PGA announces the results of the Monday Qualifying for the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii. Participants teed off today on the par 72, Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort for four (4) spots in the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii to be played January 14 - 17, 2010 at Waialae Country Club. There were eighty-three (83) hopeful players teeing it up with a field that consisted of the top fifty (50) plus ties scorers from the Pre-Qualifier held Sunday, January 10th and thirty-one (31) Tour members and exempt players all battling it out for those four coveted spots. Participants come from all over the country to try to qualify for this event annually.

At the top of the leader board earning the first spot firing a 9-under par 63 was Canadian Tour member Aaron Goldberg, 24, of Carlsbad, CA. The second spot went to 48-year-old PGA Tour member Jim Carter of Scottsdale, AZ with an 8-under par 64. There were three tied for the last two spots at 7-under par 65. Nick Mason, 27, of Cave Creek, AZ and former UH Hilo golf team member birdied the second playoff hole on #18 to capture the third spot. The last spot was won by PGA Tour member Spencer Levin, 25, of Elk Grove, CA by making a birdie on #16 on the third extra hole.

There are five other local boys who are already in the field of the 2010 Sony Open in Hawaii. A spot was granted to Kevin Hayashi of Hilo Muni GC as the Section Champion of the Aloha Section PGA and he is also the ASPGA Player of the Year. Another exemption was awarded to T.J. Kua - UH Manoa Golf Team member, the low qualifier amongst twelve (12) top amateurs from Hawaii, made up from last year's Governor's Cup standings. Parker McLachlin earned a spot through the Tour and Tadd Fujikawa and Dean Wilson earned spots with sponsor's exemptions.
