U.S. Open Pebble Beach: PHil Mickelson Tees of on number one, which causes me to think - No European player has won the U.S. open in 40 years...is it time now? or maybe other international players? As we move into the leader groups on moving day we do see a lot of international players - actualy amonth the 11 top players on the leader board only 2 americans...we have Scottish, South african, England, Japan, Germany, and South Korea...Truly exciting for the Europeans.
What will it take one asks - well the Swedes are not really in it and they cannot "Close anyway" as Tiger put it a cuple of years back so who ca, well my bet would be Paul Casey - he is solid players and will be up there as long as the conditions remain tough - if the course becomes easier and the winning score head towards -10 then Casey is not the guy, he needs tough conditions around even scoring and he is our man. At the ned of the day, this is truly Phil's tournament to loose at this point, if he keeps his game on the same level as yesterday it is just a matter of how large the victory will be....anyway, my 2 cc ...
Update: Mickelson Bogey number one after booming the drive, but not beeing agreesive on the approach shoot..I do not get it, why not continue the play from yesterday - be agreesive? This almost looks like the the strange strategy from 2008 open, when he decideed to not put a driver in the bag...I sure hope this was just a fluke..
